ASpecial Day

By SHELLA ANN ESCOLANO

One sunny morning, Sam stepped outside with his favorite backpack resting comfortably on his shoulders. The sky above was a brilliant shade of blue without a single cloud in sight. With the warm sun shining down on his black hair, Sam felt a burst of happiness in his chest. It felt like the perfect start to a brand new day.

As Sam walked down the sidewalk, the weather began to play a trick. The gentle wind turned gusty, and the bright blue sky was quickly hidden behind rolling, dark gray clouds. The air grew cooler, and the cheerful morning light started to fade into a gray shadow.

First came a sprinkle, and then came a splash. Tiny raindrops began to tap-dance on the pavement and tickle Sam's cheeks. Within moments, the gentle sprinkle turned into a steady shower, washing over the sleepy neighborhood.

Sam wasn't worried, though, because he was ready for anything. He quickly reached for his gear and popped open his colorful umbrella with a loud click. Standing safely underneath his dry canopy, he listened to the calming rhythm of the falling rain.

Just as quickly as the storm arrived, the rain clouds drifted away to let the light back in. Sam looked up in wonder as a magnificent rainbow stretched across the horizon. Its bands of red, orange, yellow, green, and blue looked like a magic bridge in the sky.

The sun burst forth again, warmer and brighter than before, making the wet puddles sparkle like scattered diamonds. Birds flew out from the trees, chirping happy songs to welcome the return of the light. Nearby, the garden flowers looked thirsty no more, standing tall and fresh with water droplets on their petals.

Sam folded his umbrella and shook off the water, marveling at how much the world had changed in just one hour. The weather had shifted from sunny to rainy and back to sunny again. It reminded him that change can bring beautiful surprises, just like the rainbow.

Adjusting his backpack straps, Sam continued on his way with a skip in his step. He realized that you don't need perfect weather to have a wonderful time. Whether it is dry or wet, Sam knew that every day is special in its own way.
