Lola The Gymnast

By Lola Rose Perkin

In the middle of the living room stood a bright, shiny pink gymnastics bar. Lola loved it more than any toy in the house. "Watch this!" she shouted, gripping the bar tightly with her little hands.

Her cousins, Harry and Alfie, were visiting for a fun playdate. Harry, wearing his favorite football kit, ran circles around the room. He had black hair with a long fringe that bounced as he moved.

Alfie looked a little nervous as he touched the pink metal. "It looks very high," he whispered quietly. Harry just laughed and tried to do a silly monkey swing, making funny faces at them.

But Lola did not want to be silly like the boys. "No, like this!" she said with a serious face. She pointed her toes straight down and lifted her chin up high.

Lola took a deep breath and pulled herself up. She swung her legs back and forth, keeping them perfectly straight. She spun around the bar and landed with a big thump, holding her arms up.

"Wow!" said Alfie, clapping his hands for his cousin. Harry tried to copy her but fell onto the soft cushions with a giggle. Even though the boys messed around, Lola kept practicing.

Years went by, and Lola kept practicing every single day. She practiced in the garden, at the park, and in a big gym with blue mats. She learned how to jump higher and spin faster.

One day, Lola was all grown up and ready for the biggest competition in the world. The lights in the arena were bright and the crowd was very loud. She wore a sparkly leotard that shimmered.

Lola leaped onto the bar and flew through the air like a bird. She did flips and twists that made everyone gasp in wonder. She was brave and strong, and she didn't wobble even a tiny bit.

With one final giant swing, Lola let go and flipped onto the mat. She landed perfectly on her two feet! The whole crowd roared with happiness as Lola waved and smiled.

Harry and Alfie were watching from the very front row. Harry jumped up and down, full of energy, while Alfie smiled kindly. They knew their cousin was going to be a star.

Lola was given a heavy gold medal to wear around her neck. Her cousins hugged her tight, feeling so proud. The little girl on the pink living room bar was now a world-famous gymnast!
