Breanna's First Day at Kindergarten

By Valerie Gober

For Breanna, Mommy loves you to the moon and back!

Breanna jumped out of bed with a big smile. Today was a very special day because it was her first day of kindergarten! She put on her favorite purple t-shirt and jeans. "Look, Mom!" she shouted, stomping her feet so her colorful shoes lit up.

Mom smoothed Breanna's long brown hair and gave her a hug. "You look ready for anything," Mom said with kind eyes. Breanna felt a little flip-flop in her tummy. She was very excited, but she was a little nervous too.

When they arrived at school, a nice lady was standing by the door. She wore glasses and a dress with all the colors of the rainbow. "Hello! I am Mrs. Apple," she said with a warm smile. "Welcome to your new classroom!"

Breanna walked inside and her blue eyes grew wide. The room was full of bright toys, small tables, and a giant rug. Best of all, there was a cozy corner filled with hundreds of books! Breanna loved books.

She ran over to the book corner, her shoes flashing as she moved. Standing there was another girl with curly brown hair. She was wearing blue overalls and holding a book about bears. The girl looked up and smiled.

"Hi, I'm Addy," the girl said in a friendly voice. "Do you like stories too?" Breanna nodded her head yes. "I'm Breanna!" she said loudly and proudly. "I like stories about dolls the best."

Mrs. Apple clapped her hands gently. "Circle time, everyone!" she sang cheerfully. Breanna and Addy sat next to each other on the carpet. Breanna felt brave sitting next to her new friend.

After a story, it was time to color pictures. Breanna knew exactly which crayons to pick. "You are really smart," Addy told her as Breanna colored a bright sun. Breanna felt happy and shared her yellow crayon with Addy.

Then the bell rang for recess! Breanna ran as fast as she could to the playground. Her tennis shoes lit up bright red and blue with every step. "Catch me if you can, Addy!" she yelled.

Addy chased her to the swings, and they laughed together as they pumped their legs high in the air. "This is fun!" Addy giggled. Breanna realized she wasn't nervous at all anymore.

Soon, the day was over, and Mom was waiting at the door. "How was your first day?" Mom asked, holding Breanna's backpack. Mrs. Apple waved goodbye to them from her desk.

"It was great!" Breanna cheered, giving Mom a big squeeze. "I read books, played tag, and made a best friend named Addy. I can't wait to go back tomorrow!"
