Move and Groove

By Jorge Aguiar

For my Kindergarten students

Mr Jorge is Move and Groove teacher. Today, during swimming class, the children were jumping, splashing, and twirling with big smiles when Mr Jorge pointed to a strange little creature on the edge of the pool.

The creature hopped into the water and began to swim beautifully. Then, it climbed out and wiggled its body, doing a perfect little dance. Joshua, an open-minded boy who loved grasshoppers, gasped in amazement. 'It jumps so high, just like my favorite grasshoppers!' he cheered.

Juliette smiled warmly, her caring heart reminding her of the little cockroaches she liked. 'It wiggles just like Kaewin's favorite caterpillars,' she said softly. Maia, who was very reflective, watched the creature closely. 'Look at its many tiny legs stepping in time, just like a millipede,' she noted thoughtfully.

The creature spun around, weaving a tiny pattern in the air. 'It moves like a spider making a web!' said Mihanna happily. Oscar, who was a great thinker, scratched his chin. 'It has a hard little shell like a beetle,' he said. Pete, a knowledgeable boy, added, 'And it zips around fast like a fly!'

Rio, who was a brave risk-taker, pointed out, 'It slides on the wet floor like a snail, but so much faster!' Siyuan, a great communicator, shouted, 'Look, it even glows in the sun like a firefly!' Xiao Ai stood balanced on one foot and giggled. 'It hovers and dances in the air just like a beautiful dragonfly,' she observed.

'What an amazing animal!' said Mr Jorge. 'It can swim, dance, and groove just like us, so we need to give it a very special name.' The children gathered in a circle to share their best ideas. They wanted a name that showed how the creature was just like all their favorite bugs mixed together.

'Let's call it the Groovy Bug!' said Siyuan. Oscar shook his head and thought hard. 'How about the Aqua-Dancing-Spinner?' he suggested. They realized the creature was brave, curious, caring, and open-minded, just like the wonderful children in the class.

Finally, Xiao Ai had a perfectly balanced idea. 'Let's name it the Move-and-Groove Wonder Bug!' she declared. Everyone cheered, and Mr Jorge clapped his hands in joy. The little Wonder Bug did one last happy dance, ready to join their class every single day.
