RUPERT THE NINJA EXPLORER

By Holly Redbourn

never stop exploring and being kind to all that need you on the way

Rupert wasn't just a regular five-year-old boy; he was Ninja Rupert! He wore invisible black clothes and moved silently on his tiptoes. He could leap over the sofa like a rocket, almost without making a sound.

One sunny morning, Rupert gathered his team: his clever sister Marley and baby brother Freddie. "It is mission time," Rupert whispered seriously to them. "We must explore the dangerous Garden Jungle!"

As they stepped outside, the garden transformed into a wild world. The wooden fence became a giant mountain wall, and the flowers turned into bright jungle plants. Rupert crouched low, signaling for his ninja team to follow him.

Suddenly, Rupert froze in his tracks. "A sneaky leaf monster!" he shouted, spotting something fluttering in the wind. He did three quick ninja moves—chop, spin, jump—and scared the monster away while Marley clapped.

Plop! A red apple fell from the old tree above them with a loud thud. "Oh no," gasped Rupert, looking up, "the Dragon Tree is awake!" Baby Freddie squealed with excitement as the giant tree loomed over them.

Rupert knew exactly what to do to save his team. "We won't fight," he said, gently placing the apple back near the roots as a gift. "We give the dragon a peace offering." The tree stayed quiet, and the jungle was safe again.

On the way back, they sneaked past sleeping tigers that looked a lot like garden chairs. They even leaped over a puddle of hot lava! "Don't worry," Rupert told Freddie, "I will protect you."

Safe inside, Rupert took off his invisible hood and smiled. "Mission complete," he said, giving his sister and brother a high-five. Being a ninja was fun, but being a big brother was the best adventure of all.
