the cousins and the dinos

By harry alfie and lola

Harry raced through Shrewsbury Museum in his football kit, his long black fringe bouncing as he pretended to kick a ball. His kind but nervous cousin Alfie hurried behind, while little Lola skipped happily along. They were looking for the best exhibit in the whole building.

In a quiet corner, they found a strange machine covered in flashing lights and dials. Clever Alfie looked at the metal box and gulped. "I think this is a real time machine," he whispered nervously.

Before Alfie could say another word, funny little Lola reached out and poked the biggest button. There was a bright flash of purple light and a loud zooming sound! The walls of the museum vanished completely.

The cousins landed with a soft thump in a steamy, green jungle. Giant trees reached up to the sky, and massive bugs buzzed through the hot air. They had traveled all the way back to the Jurassic period!

As they peeked through the thick leaves, they saw a giant, speckled egg resting in a nest of mud. The egg began to shake and wiggle. Then, with a loud snap, the top of the shell broke wide open!

A small baby dinosaur sprang up mid-jump, half-hidden behind a large green fern. It gripped the frond with its tiny claws, staring at the cousins with wide, shiny eyes. The shy little creature looked very startled to see them.

"Hello there," said Lola, stepping forward to show the curious baby that they were kind. The baby dinosaur tilted its head and made a soft chirping sound. Alfie smiled, forgetting to be nervous for a moment.

Suddenly, the ground began to shake with a terrible THUMP, THUMP, THUMP! The trees crashed apart as a massive mother dinosaur stomped into the clearing. She looked very angry to find strangers near her nest.

The giant mother let out a mighty roar that shook the leaves from the branches. "We need to go, right now!" shouted determined Harry. He quickly grabbed a shiny piece of the broken eggshell and dashed away.

The three brave cousins ran as fast as they could back to the glowing time machine. The angry mother dinosaur chased them, her big teeth snapping in the air. Alfie cleverly remembered which buttons to press and slammed his hand on the controls.

With another loud zooming sound, the jungle faded away just in time. The machine spun them through the swirling colors of time. They landed safely back on the quiet floor of Shrewsbury Museum.

Harry reached into his pocket and pulled out the piece of speckled dinosaur shell. They proudly placed the glowing souvenir on a display stand for everyone to see. It was the greatest treasure the museum had ever found!
