The Rainbow That Forgot Its Colors

By Sebastian and Samantha

High above the clouds lived Raina, a beautiful rainbow with a gentle, smiling face. She loved showing off her bright red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet stripes. But one morning after a big storm, she woke up and gasped! Her beautiful colors were completely gone, leaving her pale and clear.

Raina floated up to her warm friend, the Sun, and asked for help. "I lost my colors! What should I do?" she cried with a sad little shimmer. The Sun smiled kindly at her. "Your colors come from the world below, little Raina. Go look closely, and you will remember them."

Raina floated down to Earth and saw a patch of soft, red roses. "Red is for love," she whispered, and a bright red stripe popped back into place! Next, she flew over a grove of round, sweet oranges. "Orange is for joy," she giggled, as a happy orange stripe appeared.

In a sunny field, golden wheat waved hello in the warm breeze. "Yellow is for happiness," Raina smiled, and a sunny yellow stripe glowed brightly. Then she found a quiet forest full of fresh, dancing leaves. "Green is for growing," she said softly, watching a bright green stripe join the others.

Raina drifted over a calm, still lake that looked just like the wide sky. "Blue is for peace," she sighed happily. A cool blue stripe painted itself right next to the green. She felt so magical as her beautiful colors started to return one by one!

The sun began to set, turning the evening sky a deep, rich indigo. "Indigo is for sweet mysteries," she whispered, gaining her sixth stripe. Finally, she spotted tiny purple violets blooming under the twinkling moon. "And violet is for dreams," she smiled, as her very last stripe sparkled into place.

Raina was fully colored again, glowing with all seven magnificent stripes! She floated back up high above the clouds, her face beaming with a huge, kind smile. The whole world looked up and gasped in wonder at her brilliant light. She was the most beautiful rainbow that had ever been seen.

Raina learned that her lovely colors came from the wonderful things in the world and the good feelings in her heart. Now, every time she stretches across the sky, she shares her bright joy with everyone below. She knows that even if something beautiful is forgotten, it can always be found again.
